Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – After a five-year investigation, a Springfield woman has been arrested in connection with the 2019 murder of Joseph M. Sommer II.

Morgan C. Allin, 36, is being held in the Sangamon County Jail, charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

On April 29, 2019, Springfield Police responded to a home in the 1600 block of North 7th Street, where they found Sommer, 45, dead from a single gunshot wound to his upper body. He lived alone at the residence.

Police say the investigation required extensive department resources and involved collaboration with federal and state agencies.

Allin was arrested earlier this month and indicted by a Sangamon County Grand Jury on Nov. 13. She appeared in court on Thursday, and her next hearing is set for Jan. 6, 2025.
