Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man will spend some time in prison after a dog fighting investigation led to the discovery of 15 live dogs and three dead ones at a local home.

Our news partners at WAND-TV report Salenzio Anderson, 36, has pleaded guilty to charges of animal abuse and violating his probation.

As part of an agreement, Anderson will spend half of the next three years in prison.

Police went to a Lilac Lane home back in January and made the discovery of the dogs, along with bones from other dogs.

Some of the dogs were injured, and most were caged with no food or water.

An inflatable pool also was found, covered in dog blood, that authorities said was used as a dogfighting ring.

The sentence meant that, under the state’s Truth in Sentencing Law, Anderson was sentenced to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, but must only serve 50 percent of the sentence.
