Springfield man charged with murder for Monday shooting death

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A Springfield man is now facing murder charges after being arrested Monday following a shooting death.

Springfield Police say after being arrested on unrelated charges Monday, Rod White, 57, is now charged with first degree murder, possession of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a weapon by a repeat felony offender.

Springfield Police say officers were called to a home around 5:45 a.m. Monday near 12th and Kansas on the city’s east side.

The Sangamon County Coroner pronounced Sean Campbell, 54, dead at the scene.  An autopsy confirms Campbell died from a gunshot wound.

Court records in White’s case are not yet available, and no other details have been released.  He remains held in the Sangamon County Jail.
