Harristown, IL (WAND) – Oil prices shot up to over $100 a barrel Monday, putting a squeeze on world economies.

In Illinois, drivers have seen gas prices jump from under $3 a gallon to around $3.30 to $3.50.

Jim Calhoun, owner of Calhoun’s Lawn Care Service in Decatur, was filling up at Billingsley’s 66 Travel Center in Harristown and preached patience amid the jump in prices.

“I figured it was going to go up because of the war,” he told WAND News. “It will come down eventually. People have just got to be patient.”

Gas station owners are also feeling the pinch as rising prices squeeze their profit margins.

“It affects us just like everyone else. Our operating costs, transaction costs, everything goes up for us,” said station owner Jay Billingsley. “Demand seems to drop when we have a spike like this. It’s certainly not favorable to us either.”
