Police arrest 24 people in Logan County for drugs and weapons

(CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A joint law enforcement operation in Logan County led to the arrest of 24 people on Thursday. The arrests stemmed from warrants issued following narcotics and weapons investigations.

The coordinated effort involved the Lincoln Police Department, Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Central Illinois Enforcement Group, and the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force.

According to a joint news release, the operation resulted in 61 criminal charges, including 11 Class X felonies, 23 Class 1 felonies, 23 Class 2 felonies, 2 Class 3 felonies, and 1 Class 4 felony. Additionally, several unrelated warrant arrests were made during the operation.

During these investigations, the agencies reported seizing:

Methamphetamine: 1,892.8 grams
Cocaine: 773.5 grams
Heroin/Fentanyl: 36.1 grams
Firearms: 42
Vehicles: 5
The total weight of the illegal drugs combined was 2,702.4 grams (5.95 pounds), with a total street value of $156,672.

The Central Illinois Enforcement Group is a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement task force that includes the Illinois State Police and police departments from Jacksonville, Springfield, Lincoln, and Pana. It also involves sheriff’s offices from Christian, Logan, Morgan, Cass, and Sangamon counties.
