Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Sorry, Lil Wayne. A few more people came to see the grandstand show of multi-platinum country star Megan Moroney this year than your show last year.
The Illinois State Fair says the Sunday night show of Moroney drew and attendance of 15,532 fans — breaking Lil Wayne’s record of the previous year by just 105 attendees. That means Moroney now holds the grandstand attendance record.
“Each year, our challenge is to improve upon the year before. Capturing a mix of old and new as well as diversity across genres is at the forefront of our planning,” said Jerry Costello, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, in a news release. “The Illinois State Fair has a long tradition of featuring artists early in their careers, and we’re proud to have been part of this milestone moment with Megan Moroney.”
The Illinois Department of Agriculture, which runs the Illinois State Fair, says tickets for the remaining grandstand shows are still on sale through Ticketmaster and at the Fair box office.
