SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – A new exhibit – geared to children – at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is called “Citizen City.” And a learning series for children in grades K through five goes along with it.

“We wanted to take the idea of citizenship,” said the museum’s education director, Cindy Klenke, appearing on the WTAX Morning Newswatch, “in a way to help students understand what it means to be a good citizen, modeling that of Abraham Lincoln.”

Sessions are at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

  • Good Neighbor, Sept. 19
  • Community Helpers, Nov. 21
  • Construction Day, Jan. 23
  • Maps and Neighborhoods, Feb. 27
  • Young Impact Makers, March 20
  • History of Our Community, April 10

“There are so many different ways to start those conversations with our little ones, and we do it through play,” said Klenke. “that’s what our new exhibit will focus on, and we are just really trying to launch that idea before the exhibit opens; to build some excitement and just start those conversations.”
