Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Rhea is a lovely, friendly, & fun tabby with white kitten, approximately 5 months old. She arrived on June 5 with her FIV positive mother Wren, and Rhea is currently testing positive herself.
Kittens from an FIV positive mom can inaccurately test positive up until 6 months of age. So Rhea will need to be retested at 6 months to receive an accurate result.
You can read more about FIV here:
https://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/infectious-parasitic/fiv-cats, but the key facts are that even if Rhea is truly positive, she can live a normal life span with FIV, and it is much harder for her to pass it to an FIV negative cat than was previously believed. She is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated appropriate to age.
