Decatur, IL (WAND) – A 12-hour standoff with police in Decatur ended with a person inside a home being found dead and another person hospitalized after being shot, according to Illinois State Police and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.

Police responded to a home on South Wyckles Road just south of West Main Street around 12 p.m. Friday. MCSO Spokesman Lt. Scott Flannery said officers initially responded to a possible shooting.

Flannery said a suspect barricaded himself inside a home after shooting a man. The 41-year-old victim was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and underwent surgery. No other information about the victim has been released.

Decatur police also responded to the scene. Law enforcement had attempted to negotiate with the suspect Friday afternoon, according to Flannery.

Illinois State Police eventually were called to assist with the barricaded suspect.

ISP said Saturday morning that officers heard a gunshot from inside the home. When they entered the home they found a person dead from an “…apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound,” according to an ISP spokesperson.

The standoff ended around 1 a.m. Saturday.

No additional information has been released about the suspect, including the relationship between them and the shooting victim.

MCSO is still investigating.
