SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – The independent candidate for Illinois Governor in next month’s election continues to stand by his stance that he’s dissolutioned with the political party he left.

Collin Corbett, though, tells the WTAX Morning Newswatch, though, he’d still support Republican Darren Bailey, if he thought there was a good reason to.

“People would like to see eliminating the tolls, lowering people’s property taxes, making people more safe.  I like the ideas that Darren Bailey proposes.  The problem is there’s no substance behind them.  There’s no actual plans to achieve them.  But, I will give Darren Bailey credit, because at least he has ideas for the future.”

Corbett claims until a recent interview, all Governor Pritzker has done is campaign on what he’s done in the past, and presented no new ideas.

“There’s a natural inclination of a candidate to say, ‘Look.  See?  Look at what I did.’  The problem is when voters cast their vote, they already voted you before.  So you’re telling them what they got for their last vote.  Now, tell me what you’re going to get for my next vote, that you’re asking for,” said Corbett.  “That’s what we’re missing out of this governor.  The reason why that matters is you’ve got a governor who, highly likely, won’t be our governor in two years.”

Pritzker has claimed he is focused on continuing to help Illinois, but Corbett says it’s likely he’ll either support a national candidate or be one himself.  And he claims that’s why Pritzker has focused more on the past in campaigning, than in the future.

Corbett’s running mate is fellow suburban resident Carolyn Schofield.

The election is November 3.

Throughout the next several weeks, the WTAX Morning Newswatch will air excerpts of extended interviews of candidates for statewide office, assuming they all accept our invitations.  Those interviews will also be part of the Morning Newswatch podcasts.
