Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Before members of the Illinois General Assembly scattered for what will be an abbreviated holiday weekend, State Reps. C.D. Davidsmeyer (pictured, left) (R-Murrayville) and Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) held a news conference to remind reporters that the controlling Democrats “don’t have a revenue problem, they have a spending problem.”

Gov. JB Pritzker’s proposed budget for FY 27 is about $1 billion more than that of the current fiscal year, which expires June 30. What’s more, they say, state spending is up forty percent since Pritzker took over after winning the 2018 election. “The state of Illinois has increased spending by $16 billion” since then, said Davidsmeyer. “He raised taxes and fees 57 times, and he wants to take even more money out of the pockets of hardworking Illinoisans this year.”

Davidsmeyer said for all of the Democrats’ talk about “affordability,” their strategy boils down to a three-step plan: “Tax. Spend. Repeat.”

Lawmakers return Memorial Day for the final seven-day push toward their scheduled May 31 adjournment.
