FDA recalls Great Value Cottage Cheese sold in 24 states, including Illinois

Champaign, IL (CHAMBANA TODAY) – Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall of several Great Value cottage cheese products sold at Walmart stores in 24 states — including Illinois.

The recall was issued after it was discovered the affected products were not fully pasteurized according to state regulatory standards. The cottage cheese was sold between Feb. 17 and Feb. 20.

States impacted are Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

All affected products were sold in white plastic containers with white lids. The “BEST IF USED BY” dates are printed on the side of the lid.

The products were manufactured by Saputo. Consumers who purchased any of the listed items are advised to discard them or return them to Walmart for a full refund.

No illnesses have been reported. However, health officials warn that consuming products that are not fully pasteurized can pose serious health risks, particularly for young children, older adults and individuals with weakened immune systems. Anyone experiencing symptoms or concerns after consuming the product should contact a healthcare provider.
