Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – District 186 superintendent Jennifer Gill announced Monday evening that she will serve one more year before retiring.
Gill, 55, will have worked in education 35 years, including twelve as leader of Springfield Public Schools. That combination, as well as a desire to care for her parents and spend time with a new grandchild, led her to change course. She anticipated continuing to work in education in some capacity.
Gill is a product of District 186 schools, as is board president Erica Austin.
“We understand home,” Austin told reporters after the meeting. “This is home. It’s home for us, so we understand our district and what the district needs. So to come back, it’s full circle. It’s a beautiful thing. Hopefully we can find someone who takes care of our home.
Consultants from the Illinois Association of School Boards, soliciting their search services for $13,400, said a new superintendent could be identified around New Year’s.
