Springfield, IL (WAND) – Black Lives Matter Springfield marked its 10-year anniversary Saturday afternoon. The organization hosted a block party to celebrate.

The party consisted of food, activities, vendors, and free brake light repairs.

Black Lives Matter partnered with the Institute for Justice to educate the community on qualified immunity.

Co-Founder Sunshine Clemons said it is important for the community to learn more.

“We’re really passionate about spreading education and qualified immunity,” said Clemons. “We wanted to make sure that we provided an opportunity for the community to come out and learn what that is and use their voice to say that this is not something that we should have in Illinois.”
