Springfield, IL (WAND) – Three Ameren Illinois linemen are set to compete at the International Lineman’s Rodeo and defend their championship.

Jason Novak, Austin Lewis, and Clayton Gulley will lead a team of Ameren linemen from Illinois and Missouri at the 2025 International Lineman’s Rodeo, held October 17-18 in Bonner Springs, Kansas.

The three are based in Marion, Ill., and will showcase their skills by competing in four events.

Luke Wollin, vice president of Electric Operations for Ameren Illinois said, “Jason, Austin and Clayton’s pursuit of a second consecutive championship reflects teamwork, training and the highest standards of safety in the field – values that drive our entire organization each and every day.”

Novak said, “Winning the title ‘Best of the Best’ was an incredible honor. To win it again, we’ll need a near-perfect day – because we’re up against the most elite linemen in the world. Ameren will have excellent representation at this year’s event.”

Ameren Illinois is sending 21 linemen, six apprentices, and ten judges and committee members to the rodeo. Ameren Missouri is sending 12 linemen, eight apprentices, and 17 judges and committee members.

Teams will compete in the Hurtman Rescue, Pole Climb, and two mystery challenges. Competitors are judged on speed, safety, and technique. Apprentices will also complete a written test in addition to field events.
