Agreed-to injunction filed in lawsuit filed by Springfield Bishop, among others, against state’s new assisted suicide law

Springfield, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Both sides in a lawsuit over Illinois’ assisted suicide law that will take effect next month have agreed to a temporary restraining order.

According to documents filed in northern Illinois Federal Court, the order, for now, restricts medical providers from sharing, or being forced to share, information about the so-called end of life law.

Four doctors, Springfield Catholic Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, and a southern Illinois nursing home filed suit against the Illinois Departments of Public Health and Financial and Professional Regulation, and their directors.

They claim the law would force them to take part in such procedures even if they object to it.  And Paprocki says it goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church.

“We can’t do anything that will hasten that person’s (terminally ill patient) death in an intentional way,” Paprocki told WAND News. “So, we wanted to get an injunction in before that law takes effect. We’re very pleased that the judge granted that temporary restraining order.”
