Decatur, IL (CAPITOL CITY NOW) – Gov. JB Pritzker used the Farm Progress Show as the setting Tuesday to announce a $2 billion fertilizer ammonia plant is coming to Tuscola.

Cronus (Chemicals) will be creating the first world-scale ammonia fertilizer plant in Tuscola, creating a product used by farmers across the world,” said Mark Denzler, president and CEO of the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association. “At capacity, it’s going to produce 950,000 tons of ammonia, which are readily available using cheap natural gas as the key feedstock.”

Illinois Department of Agriculture director Jerry Costello II added the news could not have come at a more critical time, with an estimated 95 percent of U.S. farms projected to be unprofitable in 2025.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity said an EDGE tax credit is an incentive for the 130-job plant.
