Springfield, IL (WTAX) – What’s worse than someone parking in a handicapped spot when they’re not handicapped? To Todd Faulkner, next to nothing.
“When you try to find a handicapped parking spot, and you see someone parked in a handicapped spot that doesn’t have a (handicapped) plate, doesn’t have a placard,” Faulkner told the Springfield city council Tuesday in relaying a story of someone doing exactly that. “I took it upon myself, I said, excuse me, did you forget to put your placard in your windshield? (She answered) Well, we don’t have one. (I responded) Well, you’re aware that you’re parking in a handicapped spot. (She said) Well, so? We’re only going to be here for a minute or two.”
Ald. Jim Donelan, who brought up the whole topic to begin with, said with the coming restoration of a traffic enforcement division to Springfield’s police department, people will change their attitudes once they start getting costly tickets.
The council heard about the nuisance of pop-up parties, including noise, safety, and hundreds of cars in neighborhoods. With this being the season for pop-up parties, it’s also the season to complain about pop-up parties.
