A 28 year old driver led a Menard County deputy on a high speed chase Friday eastbound on IL-123 west of Five Points St.

It started around 9:50 that evening when the deputy was passed by Ford passenger car. When the officer gave pursuit the driver attempted to elude reaching speeds over 100 miles per hour.

The driver lost control and left the roadway, overturning south of Sawmill Lane.

Justin Thornley of Petersburg was entrapped in the vehicle. Fire and EMS extricated him and took him to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Thornley was cited for multiple violations, including driving under the influence of alcohol and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
