Fake Flowers

I keep seeing a new “gardening trend” around town and I’m just wondering if it strikes anyone else as strange…. People “planting” fake flowers! What is that about? Are we supposed to be fooled? Is it a time saver? As in, I have the time to stick them in the ground, or this flowerpot next to my door, but beyond that, don’t expect any more form me.

Are these people concerned about conserving water? If so, I can appreciate that. You love the Earth. You wish to decorate it with faux, silky replicas of nature’s bounty. But you don’t want to waste any of Earth’s resources to maintain the beauty of a real flower.

Is it laziness? I’ll just stick this in the ground and everyone will think I am a Master Gardener! Voila! What about the poor confused bumblebees desperately trying to pollinate your plastic flower? You have wasted his valuable busy bee time!

Anyway, if you want to find me, I will be out on this hot, humid day watering my flowers so that my neighbors will not be judging ME, the way that I am judging those who are trying to pull a fast one on Mother Nature. fake-flowers
