Happy Earth Day, everyone! The theme today being Reduce, REUSE and Recycle…Let’s talk about Repurposing!
I love it when you can make something you need out of something you already have! I needed a little shelf in our guest bathroom for hand towels and extras. The countertop is small and I hate for things to look cluttered when guests stay over.
This was a wooden box sent from our corporate office that was filled with goodies for Dave and I to snack on. I hated to just throw it away when it can be re-used into something super cute! I didn’t have to battle Dave over it either. (It’s not like he was going to use it for anything)
It was just a few steps and SO easy.
I popped the back of the box off with a screwdriver and removed the nails with the claw end of a hammer.
I painted the box lightly with one coat of white chalk paint and a second coat of grey chalk paint.
My big mistake was using gorilla clue to reinforce the seams to make sure they would hold weight. I didn’t know gorilla glue expands like that! It looked ugly, so I scraped it off and refilled the seams with carpenter’s wood glue. That looked so much cleaner. Lesson learned.
Let everything dry overnight and voila! Done! Now, get outside and go hug a tree!
